How does the solar panel installation process work in Scotland?
Eight steps: enquiry, survey, design and written quote, DNO notification, building warrant where needed, installation through our MCS-certified partners, commissioning and handover, then ongoing aftercare. Timings depend on the network operator and scheduling, and are confirmed with you. We handle the paperwork, including DNO notification and MCS registration through our partners.

Enquiry
Fill in the two-minute quote quiz or call us on 0141 230 0198. We take your postcode, what you are interested in, and a few details about your property. No obligation, no pressure.
No-obligation survey
We visit your home and assess your roof — orientation, pitch, shading, and structural condition. We check your consumer unit and any space for battery storage. Nothing is quoted until this is done.
Design and exact figures
We design your system and give you a written quote with the system size, panel count, battery capacity, generation estimate (using the MCS method), and your price. You see the assumptions on the page. See our solar with vs without battery comparison for how the two setups differ.
DNO notification
We handle the DNO notification — G98 for systems under 3.68kW, G99 for larger systems. In central and southern Scotland that is SP Energy Networks; in the Highlands and Islands, SSEN. You do not deal with the network operator yourself.
Building warrant
Where a building warrant is required — typically for listed buildings or conservation areas — we handle the application. Most standard domestic installations are permitted development and do not need one.
Installation
We install through MCS-certified partners. Bird proofing is included as standard. See our solar panels page for the full hardware specification.
Commissioning and handover
Your system goes live. You receive a handover pack with your documents, performance estimates, and aftercare instructions. Your system is registered with MCS and you receive the certificate you need for export tariffs.
Aftercare
We stay on call. If something goes wrong, you have one number to call. Warranty and guarantee terms are confirmed in writing on your quotation. See our guarantees page for the full detail.
